Fir Spindle DF118
1.7" x 1.7" x 22"
1.2 lbs.

Dense, nicely figured Douglas Fir with tight growth rings and a clean, smooth texture. Mostly straight grain with the occasional small knot — just enough character to give each piece its own personality without compromising function or finish.

Cut as spindles at 1.7" × 1.7" × 22", these blanks are ideally sized for turning French-style rolling pins — the classic tapered, handleless style that lets you feel the dough directly under your palms. The tight grain and natural hardness of this fir makes it a great candidate for kitchen use, taking a fine finish right off the tool with minimal sanding.

Also great for:
- Tool handles (chisels, rasps & files)
- Drum sticks & mallets
- Wooden wizard wands
- Spindle legs for small furniture

Air-dried to approximately 10–12% MC, ready for the lathe. For use as rolling pins, a light food-safe finish — such as mineral oil or beeswax — is all you need to complete them.

Photos show typical color and grain; your spindle will be similar but beautifully unique. Price is per spindle.

Excellent Details
Format: Kindle
If you're like me, you've probably either never heard of these cases or heard about them in only the broadest of strokes. For remedying that, this book is excellent. Thomas provides a detailed account of how these complaints came to be, how they wended their way through the cases, and why they are important in terms of outcome and legal precedent. This is a book that I'm glad to have read and one that I would highly recommend to others.

engrossing, revealing, shocking, fascinating -- 10 gritty women who won big cases at great personal loss
Format: Kindle
Thankfully, women no longer have to pay more for retirement plans, and get lower payouts, than men. Amazing how many different, inventive the ways were in the 1960's to keep women out of jobs. Bless Title VII and the attorneys and clients who fought these battles; we stand on their shoulders. The saddest part is the update, at the end of the book showing how protections against gender discrimination in the workplace have weakened in recent years. In particular, it has become difficult, or nearly impossible, to prove that a hostile work environment exists so long as employers pay lip service to certain ideas and practices and hide what's really going on--which we working women KNOW still goes on, unfortunately.

Entertaining, personal history of landmark cases
Format: Hardcover
Amazing look behind the scenes at the people (plaintiffs and lawyers) who made equality for women at work a reality. Compelling, heartwarming, and educational - should be required reading for anyone who holds a job in 21st century America - both to learn how far we've come and to see the ways in which we need to continue the fight for equality at work.

Great Process for Presentation Noobs
Format: Paperback
I had already agreed to give a workshop to my co-workers about how to give more effective presentations when I purchased this book for prep. I immediately adapted the recommended process. After years of creating my own slide decks I have my quirky development process. Following the guidelines in this book will allow anyone at any skill level to methodically create a dynamic slide deck and give a speech that will move the audience to action. I wish I'd had it 35 years ago, when I first started making slide decks, before I learned the hard way that bullets kill.
