ABOUT THE MAKER
Gunji Pottery Studio is nestled in Mashiko, a historic pottery town about 100 km north of Tokyo. Run by husband-and-wife team Keiko and Tsunehisa Gunji, the studio produces beautiful, functional ceramics created both collaboratively and individually. They also work closely with a small group of local artisans, sharing skills and inspiration.
Tsunehisa shapes the vessels on the wheel, while Keiko brings them to life with her thoughtful and detailed decoration. Their pieces are made for everyday use, embracing simple pleasures and reflecting the quiet beauty of the natural surroundings that inspire their work.
We visit the studio ourselves to pick up each piece by hand, and we’re truly delighted to introduce Keiko and Tsunehisa’s work to the world through UGUISU.
