The Ampeg Portaflex PF-500 bass amp head combines vintage-inspired design with modern performance features tailored for today’s working bassist. Delivering 500 watts RMS into 4 ohms via a lightweight Class-D power section, the PF-500 is built to handle demanding live and studio environments while maintaining the rich tonal heritage associated with Ampeg.
At the core is a dual JFET preamp circuit that shapes classic Ampeg warmth with clarity and precision. The front panel offers Gain and Master controls, a three-band EQ with Ultra Lo and Ultra Hi switches, and a five-position Midrange Frequency selector for detailed tone shaping. An onboard variable compressor tightens the low end and smooths peaks without sacrificing dynamics. A dual-function LED provides instant visual feedback on signal clipping and mute status.
Connectivity is comprehensive. The PF-500 includes a balanced XLR line out with pre/post EQ switching, ground lift, and a –40 dB (mic/line level) pad, making it equally at home in DI applications. Players can integrate external gear using the effects loop, FX Mix control, and Preamp Out/Power Amp In jacks. Additional features include a stereo aux input, headphone output, tuner out, footswitch jack, and both Speakon and 1/4" speaker outputs.
Housed in a fan-cooled, compact chassis with a voltage selector for global use, the PF-500 offers high-output performance with modern control in a portable format—ideal for the bassist who needs versatility without compromise.
