TOLKIEN, J.R.R. The Lord of the Rings. I. The Fellowship of the Ring; II. The Two Towers; III. The Return of the King. London: George Allen & Unwin. 1971.

An bright, fresh uniform set of sixth impressions of the Second, Revised Edition of Tolkien’s masterpiece, with the extended Prologue, notes, and index of persons and places.

Following the success of The Hobbit (1937), Tolkien was urged by his publisher and readers alike to produce a sequel. The scale of The Lord of the Rings, however, was not what either had in mind, taking a full twelve years to complete (“my work has escaped from my control, and I have produced a monster”) and a further six to reach the press. In the Foreword for this second, revised edition, Tolkien writes that it “grew in the telling until it became a history of the Great War of the Ring and included many glimpses of the yet more ancient history that preceded it. It was begun soon after The Hobbit was written and before its publication in 1937 […]”.

The editions of both works published in the mid 1960s – the Third of The Hobbit and this Second of The Lord of the Rings – represent the author’s final revisions, aligning them even more closely as parts of the monumental legendarium he had brought into being. Tolkien was pressed to produce new editions so that American copyright protection could be secured without question (the United States were not yet part of the international copyright convention). A new Ballantine US paperback edition of The Lord of the Rings, with Tolkien’s revisions, was issued in October 1965, this UK edition in cloth following in 1966. In the new Foreword, Tolkien writes that “the opportunity has been taken of revising [the work]. A number of errors and inconsistencies that still remained in the text have been corrected, and an attempt has been made to provide information on a few points which attentive readers have raised”. In addition to his Foreword, Tolkien provides “an addition to the Prologue, some notes, and an index of the names of persons and places”.

If early critical reception was muted, the work (and it is a work, rather than a trilogy) soon assumed classic status. An epic on a scale unseen in English since Spenser’s Faerie Queene, and one of the most loved (and indeed read) works of twentieth-century literature in English, C. S. Lewis went as far as to assert that “If Ariosto rivalled it in invention (in fact he does not) he would still lack its heroic seriousness. No imaginary world has been projected which is at once multifarious and so true to its own inner laws; none so seemingly objective, so disinfected from the taint of an author's merely individual psychology; none so relevant to the actual human situation yet so free from allegory. And what fine shading there is in the variations of style to meet the almost endless diversity of scenes and characters- comic, homely, epic, monstrous, or diabolic.”

Baby Body lotion
I bought this cream for my 2 babies and I absolutely love it. It keeps their skin very soft, moisturized, and irritation-free. One of my babies has very sensitive skin, and this cream helped a lot with dryness. I also love that it’s fragrance-free and absorbs well without feeling greasy. We use it every day after bath time, and we’ve noticed a big difference in their skin. 10/10

A gentle favorite we’ve trusted since baby days
I’ve been buying this since my daughter was a baby, and it’s still a staple in our house today. It’s incredibly gentle on sensitive skin, never caused irritation or dryness, and I love that we can trust it for daily use even now that she’s older. The formula is mild yet effective, with a clean feel and no overpowering scent. It’s one of those products you stick with because it just works and never disappoints. For the price and reliability, I can’t imagine our home without it. Pro Tip: Keep one bottle in the bathroom and an extra in the travel bag, great for on the go when your child’s skin needs that extra gentle care.

Gentle and Effective Daily Lotion for Baby
We’ve been using Eucerin Baby Body Lotion on our son every day, and it’s been very good. It keeps his skin soft, hydrated, and protected, even in the hot and humid southern weather. It absorbs quickly and isn't greasy. One of the best parts is how gentle it is, we apply it to his whole body, including his face, and even if it gets near his eyes or mouth, he doesn’t fuss or cry. It’s also pediatrician-recommended and fragrance-free, which is always a giant plus. We’ve had zero issues with irritation or dryness since switching to this, and we’ll definitely keep it as part of our daily routine. Highly recommended for any parent looking for a safe, effective, and affordable baby lotion.

Really good baby lotion
Recently purchased this, I was skeptical given that I’ve never used river in brand on any of my babies skin, I tried so many different baby lotions (unscented & for sensitive skin) and this one so far has been working great! It isn’t too greasy and my baby’s skin is definitely improving

Works great for dry skin!
I stumbled across this product when looking for a new lotion for my 2 month olds super dry skin. I tried several lotions until finally this one worked. It is fragrance free which is a huge plus. It was vent gentle on my babies skin and helped with her dry skin fairly quick. This is a staple in our nighttime routine now! Only thing I do not love about it, is that it is a little thin/liquidly which I personally don't like. Overall, great product and would re buy!
