Experience the transformative power of Jean Toomer's Cane, a seminal work first published in 1923 that remains a cornerstone of American literature. This innovative piece blends drama, poetry, and fiction to paint a vivid portrait of African American life in the South. Rich in imagery, Toomer captures the essence of Southern rural and urban experiences through impressionistic and sometimes surrealistic sketches. Readers will be drawn into a world filled with the evocative sights of smoke, sugarcane, dusk, and fire. In contrast, Toomer presents the northern landscape as a stark reality marked by asphalt streets. This edition features insightful contributions from Rudolph Byrd of Emory University and Henry Louis Gates Jr. of Harvard University, providing a fresh afterword that contextualizes Toomer’s work within the dynamics of American modernism and the Harlem Renaissance. Their groundbreaking biographical insights delve into Toomer's changing self-identification and his pioneering critique of race as a biological concept.
Ideal for students of literature, scholars of the Harlem Renaissance, and anyone interested in the complexities of race and identity, Cane is a must-read. Dive into Toomer's rich narrative craftsmanship that fuses lyrical beauty with profound social commentary.

Description:
First published in 1923, Jean Toomer's Cane is an innovative literary work”part drama, part poetry, part fiction”powerfully evoking black life in the South. Rich in imagery, Toomer's impressionistic, sometimes surrealistic sketches of Southern rural and urban life are permeated by visions of smoke, sugarcane, dusk, and fire; the northern world is pictured as a harsher reality of asphalt streets. This iconic work of American literature is published with a new afterword by Rudolph Byrd of Emory University and Henry Louis Gates Jr. of Harvard University, who provide groundbreaking biographical information on Toomer, place his writing within the context of American modernism and the Harlem Renaissance, and examine his shifting claims about his own race and his pioneering critique of race as a scientific or biological concept.

An immature take on Peter Parker only suitable for the most immature reader
Format: Kindle
Someday, Marvel Comics won't be controlled by white male Boomers/GenXers who make Peter Pan look well adjusted and who incessantly try to recapture a childhood that never actually existed while believing women have cooties and adult relationships are icky. But until then, we get Amazing Spider-Man by Joe Kelly, whose writing is the living embodiment of the Steve Buscemi "How do you do, my fellow kids" meme.
This run is boring, trite and cliched. You could probably get a more insightful and original story by asking ChatGPT to write one for you. The only thing going for the run - so far - is that Kelly at least isn't outright aggressively antagonizing the reader unlike the previous writer. It's just...bland and mediocre.

Great delivery, great price, great book!
Format: Hardcover
Must have for any Batman/DC comics fan. I’m not much of an art snob, but the pictures in this book are stunning. The story is wonderful.

Solid Omnibus
Format: Hardcover
This omnibus collects some of the best stories for batman fans. The hard cover at first glance is bland and seems like an after thought but can easily be overlooked. Its a black cardboard material similar to the omnis that DC keeps dishing out non stop. Keep the dust jacket on after reading and it will look great on your shelf. The binding is similar to the new omnis coming out recently from DC and it stays flat when reading and isnt tight. Its a sewn binding and I havent had any issues. As far as the pages go their not too thin and not too thick. The colors really come out and the shades of black really look well done and you can tell they didnt just reprint. There was some thought that went into this. There are some really cool extras in the back which makes up for the overall price. In all this is a giant collection of some awesome stories and my review is a little all over but you want a reason why its 5 stars.
