Mesquite Bowl Blank M-1130 3.6" x 8" x 7.5" 4.2 lbs. This is a beautiful half-log bowl blank of Texas Honey Mesquite. The overall color is the deep reddish brown of Mesquite heartwood surrounded by a thin band of yellow sapwood, with a complete and well-attached dark brown bark on the backside. This half-log bowl blank should be suitable for a bowl 7-8" in diameter and up to 3" deep. With the bark on the backside, you have the option of turning a conventional bowl or a "barky" natural-edge bowl. However, if you want a full bark edge on the "natural" rim, you will need to secure the bark with CA glue before and possibly during turning. This is a classic half-log blank, split through the center of the log. It does some pith in it and has a few cracks developing, despite being well-sealed. Mesquite is fairly dimensionally stable, so the cracks tend not to develop much compared to other woods. For any that are present, I recommend reinforcing them with CA glue prior to turning. This is a GREEN to partially air-dried bowl blank, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. It has been well-sealed with Anchor Seal and is in the process of slowly drying. It was heat-treated to kill off any hungry critters that may have been burrowing inside. It was measured at 25% MC in May 2022. If you need a current moisture content, please message us and we'll check its status for you. About the Tree This Texas-grown Honey Mesquite tree was harvested in El Campo, Texas in March of 2022. It was cut down by the city for reasons unknown to us, and we were happy to help save the tree from a burn pile. It is possible that this tree was damaged by the Valentine's Day Freeze that Texas suffered in February 2021, which is when our state lost a lot of beautiful trees in an unusually deep and long freeze. You can feel good about this American-grown hardwood being responsibly harvested and turned into beautiful art by YOU. The tree was in healthy growing condition, with a minimum of bug damage and a nice healthy girth to the trunk. There is some minor evidence of fire damage, perhaps from a campfire, near the base of the tree on one side. It may have been in a fairly protected area such as a city park, as the Mesquite is less twisted and gnarly than trees grown in open pastures. The grain looks generally long and straight and of excellent quality for green or dried turning. |

Yamaha quality, solid audio

Best in class YAMAHA .... better than DENON or ONKYO in my opinion. DENON and ONKYO both have issues with overheating and then shutting down. Yamaha cruises along on same power level without any hiccups.

SOUND - is Amazing, Incredible and better than the movie theater!

Arrived quickly. Setup was easy for for quick start, but to fine tune will take a good deal of effort (fun for me so no issues). OK, SOUND - is amazing, incredible and better than the movie theater! (paired with Klipsch 5.1, but will turn it into a 7.2). Drowns out my neighbors dogs which bark all the time - this system can get loud but the clarity is crisp and clean. Recall 20 years ago this system would have cost $10k plus for everything, now set me back around $1500 for all.
But this review is on the receiver and it is superb! Looks brand new, has sufficient warranty and 90-day return option so more than enough time to try and determine for yourself. The price is about $2-300 lower than a new one and every bit as effective so I definitely recommend this product to anyone that wants a very high quality home theater at a super low price point. Entry level to experienced, this receiver should satisfy all.

8.5 sound out of the box! (Want bespoke configs? Sorry.) Great Value, Easy Setup

Excellent unit. Off the shelf sound is very nice, but every room is different, so a bit of tweaking is usually required. Accessing the EQ settings takes a bit of sleuthing and the use of its app... which is subpar. The app interface can only be explained as designed by people who must not actually use it. Still, a wonderful machine at a fair price. I run in ECO mode and it powers my 35x47 room with plenty of power to spare and NEVER gets hot. I am running Infinity Reference speakers and a Klipsch sub in a 7.1 config.
I highly recommend the use of the included Audyssey calibration microphone! My prior experience with Yamaha YPAO left me wondering what was the point. This time with the Denon, it set up the speakers, (i'm embarrassed to say) better than I did on my own. (To be fair, I'm sure Yamaha has improved its YPAO in the decade since my prior purchase)
Bottom line. If you want maximum flexibility on EQ. Shop a different solution. However, If you want quality sound with 4K and up to and including ATMOS processing, with minimal tweaking, or just want to unbox and play, this is a wonderful unit at a very fair price.

Does well for my needs
Style: AVR-X1800H
I got this to replace a Sony head unit that was starting to fail after 10 or so years of use. This one doesn’t have the same power output, but I use Bose speakers. Bose is fairly low wattage for the most part so no problem there.
Setup was fine. My only complaint is that center channel only dialog is too quiet. I need to adjust that. Everything else is great. I don’t care about Internet connectivity, but it has that if you want it.
I’m very happy so far with this unit.
