Sansteu in the local dialect stands for Santo Stefano (St. Stephen), the vineyard where the Nebbiolo grapes are grown. This single vineyard Nebbiolo d'Alba Superiore is potent, yet fine, energetic yet somewhat holding back, immediate yet layered and complex, genuinely rooted in tradition and yet aiming for the stars. Sansteu wine matures for 12 months in oak casks followed by a further six months in the bottle. Wild strawberries, wild raspberries, and crushed rose petal aromas, with a hint of white tea. A distinct salty minerality (typical of the marly soils), structured and long.
