Mistletoe Plant

A hemiparasitic plant, Mistletoe,  is reborn in the winter when all other plants die. An evergreen plant it grows 2-5 feet in diameter and thrives in softwood deciduous trees such as Crab Apple,  Black Poplar, Linden, and Black Locust among others. Although it begins life by feeding from the sap of its host it later becomes autonomous creating its own vital energy. 

Norsemen believed the mistletoe was a plant of peace; when enemies met under the mistletoe, they were obliged to stop fighting for at least a day.Traditionally, a branch of mistletoe is hung over the doorway of one’s home for peace and good luck. Greeks also thought it would help ensure eternal life. Celtic customs used it to restore fertility to animals and people.
