I enjoyed a terrific visit to Poderi Luigi Einaudi this past spring. The estate is located in Dogliani, but like Bersano and Pio Cesare, it is grandfathered into the Barolo appellation even through the winery is physically located outside those boundaries. Poderi Luigi Einaudi has been on a buying spree of sorts with recent acquisitions resulting in a new Barolo Bussia and the upcoming Barolo Monvigliero (made with some whole-cluster fermentation). Proprietor Matteo Sardagna Einaudi and his team bought a piece of Cannubi in 1997 (2.4 hectares), followed by Bussia Dardi and Monvigliero (Verduno) purchased in 2017. They have leased holdings in Villero and Terlo (Costa Grimaldi).
