Frequently Asked Questions
What does the model number mean?
- D – Vortex pump design
- P – Semi-permanent wet well installation using two guide bars with automatic connection to the discharge
- 3057 – Pump model series
- .181 – Standard, non-explosion-proof version
- MT – Motor / pressure class
- 230 – Impeller designation
Can this replace my existing Flygt pump?
In many cases, yes. If you provide your existing model number or duty point, we can confirm suitability before purchase.
This pump is supplied with a Flygt permanent guide claw and is intended to connect to a Flygt guide rail system with automatic discharge connection. It is not supplied with a loose DIN flange for universal mounting.
The pump is designed for use with Flygt guide rail installations and may also be compatible with Lowara DN50 guide rail systems, depending on the claw and base arrangement. Please feel free to send photos or details of your current setup and we can advise on compatibility before purchase.
What is a vortex impeller?
A vortex impeller creates a swirling flow within the pump casing so solids can pass through without travelling directly through the impeller vanes. This reduces the risk of blockage compared with conventional centrifugal designs.
Why would I use a vortex impeller?
Vortex pumps are commonly chosen for sewage and sludge duties where the liquid may contain debris or fibrous material. The design prioritises solids handling and anti-clog performance, making it well suited to unattended or critical installations.
What are the disadvantages of a vortex impeller?
The main trade-off is efficiency. A vortex pump will generally require more power to achieve the same flow and head than a channel or single-vane impeller. The hydraulic efficiency is lower, but in return you gain far greater tolerance to solids and rags with a much lower risk of clogging.
