Origins & Craftsmanship
Rhum Barbancourt, founded in 1862 in Haiti, crafts this expression from 100% fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses—aligning with the style often called “rhum agricole.” After fermentation, the spirit is double-distilled in copper pot stills, a technique borrowed from cognac production, then matured for eight years in French Limousin oak barrels. The aging gives the rum its signature depth, warm hue, and refined texture. Finally, it’s bottled at around 43% ABV (86 proof).
Tasting Profile
Nose: A pale golden hue leads into aromas of vanilla, warm caramel, subtle pepper spice, and light citrus peel. There’s a soft wood-aged tone alongside fresh sugar-cane brightness.
