The 15oz Black on Blue Denim “Tachikage” from Samurai is a study in depth, contrast, and long-term evolution. At first glance, the denim appears to be a classic black-on-black, but wear slowly reveals its true character. Using a specially developed #6 slub yarn, the warp undergoes a three-stage dyeing process—first rope-dyed with indigo, then overdyed with a black sulfide finish. As the fabric ages, the black top layer wears away to expose the indigo beneath, which in turn fades to the natural white core, creating a dramatic, multi-phase fade. A black weft yarn that gradually shifts to grey adds even more dimension over time, while Samurai’s signature silver lamé selvedge nods to the gleam of a samurai sword.

Part of the “Aoki Tachikage” series, inspired by the image of a blade flashing through darkness, this denim is cut in Samurai’s 510 regular straight silhouette and weighs in at a versatile 15oz.
