De vlag van Palestina bestaat uit drie horizontale banen in zwart, wit en groen, met een rood gelijkbenig driehoek aan de hijszijde. Het ontwerp is gebaseerd op de Pan-Arabische kleuren en is wereldwijd een krachtig symbool van Palestijnse identiteit en aspiraties.

Symboliek en achtergrond

De Pan-Arabische kleuren verwijzen naar historische islamitische dynastieën: zwart voor de Abbasiden, wit voor de Omajjaden, groen voor de Fatimiden en rood voor de Hasjemieten. De vlag werd voor het eerst gebruikt in 1916 tijdens de Arabische opstand en werd later aangenomen door de Palestijnse Bevrijdingsorganisatie (PLO) in 1964. Sindsdien staat de vlag symbool voor nationale eenheid, verzet en de roep om een onafhankelijke Palestijnse staat. Internationaal wordt deze vlag vaak gebruikt bij solidariteitsdemonstraties en officiële gelegenheden.

My favorite parts were reading Daryl's takes on situations and how much of a team he and Meghan have been since day one. My husband and I felt like we have been doing things "wrong" cause he's been so involved and he really hasn't felt like he could relate or talk with most of his male friends cause they still perpetuate the typical, hands off male role. If I could personally thank and hug Meghan for sharing her story, I would. Thanks bestie ;)
