Deze klassieke, gehamerde klankschaal nodigt je uit om een moment van verstilling te creëren. Iedere schaal draagt haar eigen specifieke klank, ontstaan uit een zorgvuldig samenspel van acht verschillende metalen: koper, tin, nikkel, zink, ijzer, lood, zilver en kwik.

De samenstelling van deze metalen, samen met de diameter en dikte van de klankschaal, bepalen de unieke klank en boventonen. Zo is geen schaal precies hetzelfde, elk object vertelt zijn eigen verhaal in geluid.

Uitgebreide beschrijving

Het maken van een gehamerde klankschaal is een ambachtelijk proces, volledig met de hand uitgevoerd. Elke schaal wordt stap voor stap zorgvuldig in vorm gehamerd, om tot een zuivere, heldere toon te komen. Eerst worden de metalen, zoals koper en tin die samen brons vormen, gesmolten. Afhankelijk van het type schaal worden daarnaast kleine hoeveelheden andere metalen toegevoegd.

Het gesmolten metaal wordt in een mal gegoten en vervolgens gesneden in schijven met verschillende diameters en diktes. Deze schijven worden met vakmanschap afzonderlijk opgevormd. Een aantal schijven worden op elkaar gelegd en roodgloeiend verhit, waarna ze met behulp van een mal in een komvorm worden gehamerd. Dit werk vraagt veel ervaring, omdat het metaal alleen in een roodgloeiende staat flexibel genoeg is en anders breuk kan ontstaan.

Na het verkrijgen van de grove vorm gaat het proces verder met fijn hamerwerk. De klankschaal wordt opnieuw roodgloeiend gemaakt om de juiste klank en vorm te verfijnen. Daarna volgt het polijsten en schuren, zowel aan de binnen- als buitenkant. Soms worden er nog kleine details met beitels aangebracht, voor die laatste persoonlijke toets.

Let op: doordat deze klankschaal met de hand gehamerd wordt, kan de diameter iets variëren. De vermelde maat is dan ook een indicatie.

It’s really pretty decent except for one thing.

I bought two of these for my basement and they do look great. They were easy to assemble and I’m happy with them. The problem is that the stitching on the fabric panels are almost the size of a machine basting stitch (which for non sewers means large temporary stitches). Because the panels are tight by design, the stitches had already started to come undone before I could finish assembling everything. Fortunately I can sew and I reinforced all the panels. I had to take the first ones back off the poles to do them but I did the second set before assembling. It’s really not a bad product for the money. It’s quality fabric and the design itself looks great. The stitching looks fine but it’s just not substantial enough for the purpose it is supposed to serve. I can’t imagine why it be sewn so insufficiently. I was able to resolve my issue because I can sew. I wasn’t planning on sewing nor did I really have the time. I could have made it myself but I didn’t want to and that is why I purchased this. I ended up using valuable time. The really unfortunate thing is, I have no other complaints. This is a manufacturing problem.
