Elderton Ode to Lorraine Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 2022 is a distinguished Barossa Valley blend showcasing ripe plum flavours with distinctive bay leaf aromatics, matured 20 months in French oak.
Appearance
This wine displays a vivid deep crimson colour with excellent clarity and depth, indicating its youth and concentration. The rich hue promises the intensity of flavour to follow.
Aroma
The nose is immediately captivating with ripe plum and distinctive bay leaf notes leading the aromatic profile. Subtle hints of cassis emerge alongside warm cinnamon and clove spices, whilst earthy undertones and forest floor nuances add complexity and intrigue.
Palate
On the palate, lively cassis fruit takes centre stage, beautifully complemented by warm cinnamon and clove spices. The wine reveals subtle earthy characteristics and forest floor nuances that add layers of complexity. Finely textured tannins are persistent yet refined, enhancing rather than overwhelming the fruit character. The mouthfeel is robust yet elegant, with the 20 months spent in both new and seasoned French puncheons contributing to its sophisticated structure and length.
Pairs With
This versatile blend pairs beautifully with grilled lamb cutlets, beef Wellington, or mushroom risotto. The wine's structure and spice notes complement char-grilled steaks, whilst its refined tannins work wonderfully with aged cheddar or mature hard cheeses. For a vegetarian option, try with roasted Mediterranean vegetables or lentil shepherd's pie.
