Here's the cocktail for you. Rich Demerara sugar in a premium syrup from Liber & Co balances out the classic (and beloved) burn from mezcal in this hot drink. The strained spice base keeps it smooth and buttery.

This is based on a recipe from Dove's Luncheonette in Chicago, and comes to us courtesy of Liber & Co.

This cocktail set includes the following items, which make at least 12 cocktails:

• (1) 750 ml bottle of Pierde Almas La Puritita Verdá Mezcal
• (1) 9.5 oz bottle of Liber & Co. Demerara Gum Syrup 
• (1) 4 oz bottle of Angostura Aromatic Bitters
• 1 digital cocktail recipe

Cocktail Recipe

• 2 oz Pierde Almas La Puritita Verdá Mezcal
• 0.5 oz Liber & Co. Demerara Gum Syrup
• 1 Tbsp salted butter
• Dash of Angostura aromatic bitters
• 4 oz of prepared spice base: simmer water for at least 30 minutes with a generous addition of cinnamon sticks, star anise, allspice berries, cloves, and peppercorns, or your preferred combination of winter spices; strain or carefully ladle the hot mixture when ready to serve

 Method: Add all ingredients to a warmed mug and stir thoroughly for 20 seconds. When contents settle, grate nutmeg on top and garnish with a star anise, cinnamon stick, or another holiday-esque garnish.
